World VR Forum Presents the Second Edition of the Annual Summit

World VR Forum in collaboration with Crans-Montana Tourism and Congress was proud to present its second edition of the Annual Summit – a four-day event dedicated to Virtual and Augmented Reality, bringing together VR and AR maestros and enthusiasts from near and far for a Conference, a Festival and a Market at Le Regent Congress Center, in Crans-Montana, Switzerland from 11 to 14 May, 2017.

There were three days of Conferences in the spacious conference room on the ground floor from 11 to 13 May. Each day was represented by a major theme. The Brain: demonstrating how Virtual Reality transports you to a different universe; Immersive Storytelling: creation to funding, devoted to VR storytelling along with Hollywood studios mixed with Swiss specialists and engineers from the Silicon Valley and China; and finally, Point of Convergence: putting a focal point on a variety of disciplines that will particularly benefit from this new technology.

The Festival included an Official Selection consisting of 11 VR film premieres (International and European) competing for the Imperial Crown, the top prize in VR; a VR Cinema with synchronized projection and a variety of 360° films; and a Game Zone – a play area dedicated entirely to video games and VR/AR entertainment. The Game Zone equally allowed families lacking such technology at home to experience our selection of the best games of the year.

The Market was held for professional encounters: for VR connoisseurs, programmers, application developers, artists, filmmakers, UX designers, content creators, screen writers, gamers and game testers, consisting of The Swiss Pavilion sponsored by Pro Helvetia and dedicated to our local VR masterpieces with a focus on “Location Based VR” and “Walking Experiences”.

WVRF, in partnership with the University of Neuchatel and WAN-IFRA (World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers) – offered a master class on VR documentary production, exclusively for journalists.

Summit’s main dishes aside, the second edition offered VR Workshops throughout the last two conference days and Special Programmes in VR and AR, also for the enjoyment of the attending crowd.

Side events included: WVRF’s Country of Honour Dinner (hosted by Business Valais) with a V.I.P. list of Chinese leaders of the VR industry who were invited for this edition, at Restaurant Casino of Crans-Montana on 10 May; and last but not least, cocktail parties and discotheques for the Summit’s speakers, exhibitors and volunteers sponsored by Business Valais, Tamaggo, Lombard Odier and Red Bull.

With a meaty vernissage of activity, the 2017 edition did not fail to astonish and amuse, gathering the worldwide VR intelligentsia at the heart of its wealthy mountain homeland.
