Swiss Embassy Beijing welcomes the World VR Forum

The theme of the event was Experience Crans-Montana in Switzerland which was held at the Swiss Embassy, Beijing on September 21, 2016. Accompanied by Mr. Bruno Huggler, Director of Crans-Montana Tourisme & Congress and Mr. Thomas Allemann, Chief Representative of Fert Chinagate, Clayton Doherty, President and Co-founder of the World VR Forum was a guest of H.E. Ambassador Jean-Jacques de Darde of the Swiss Embassy in Beijing to talk VR and to promote Crans-Montana.

Two weeks prior to our visit was the opening of the G20 summit with a keynote speech from President Xi Jinping who spoke of China’s need to establish an innovative world economy. That process, as according to the president, “will be aided by the growth of new technologies such as VR”.

The World VR Forum has recognized that China has one of the greatest potentials for development of VR on the consumer side, and in terms of investment, in content and technology. The WVRF has committed to creating a bridge between China and Switzerland in consolidating the global presence of VR/AR, while distributing quality content, bringing expertise to selected partners, and building an international community. During the reception Jean-Jacques was excited to share with Clayton that at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, made a state visit to China and discussed the bilateral relations, which resulted in the joint declaration between the People’s Republic of China and the Swiss Confederation on the establishment of an innovative strategic partnership.

Sonja Astfalck, Swiss Embassy Economic Advisor told Mr. Doherty that “the realization of the Sino-Swiss Innovative Partnership though VR means sounds like a very interesting idea”. The World VR Forum has proposed to schedule such an event in Beijing in early 2017 to highlight the Chinese partners that will attend the next Summit in Crans-Montana in May 2017.
