Singapore Media Festival VR X SMF IGNITE

Singapore Media Festival (SMF), Southeast Asia’s leading international media event hosted by the Infocommunications Media Development Authority of Singapore made a comeback for its fourth edition this year gathering the region’s brightest talents and the best in film and TV content,  from 23 November – 3 December, 2017.

SMF’s attendees are media and creative professionals, industry thought-leaders and fans of television and film from all over the planet. The festival is an excellent platform for investment opportunities, strategic partnerships and creative collaborations in film, television, and digital content.
SMF reaches out to audience in Asia and beyond with a panoply of events including: the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF), ScreenSingapore (SS), Asian Television Awards (ATA), and SMF Ignite.

The inaugural VR X SMF Ignite was a full day conference that brought together technologists, creators, developers and users from the region to exchange insights on VR and immersive media ecosystem. The conference consisted of individual speakers both local and foreign and a panel discussion where a group of VR/AR specialists shared their views on how this high-tech novelty can elevate businesses in media to a whole new level. Among the speakers were: Salar Shahna, WVRF’s CEO representing Switzerland, Mohen Leo, Director of Content and Platform Strategy at ILMxLAB (USA); Allen Foo, Founder and CEO of UCCVR; Ultimate Creators Create Virtual Reality (Singapore) and many more.

Shahna spoke about WorldVRlab which he initiated in 2016, a place which finds, develops, and supports extraordinary creative talent who are devoted to crafting the immersive language of Virtual Reality and bringing their latest VR thrillers to life in their full 360 degree glory and about the key insights on trends and latest developments in the VR industry globally for content, storytelling and enterprise usage.

Leo discussed ILMXLAB, Lucasfilm’s newest laboratory for immersive entertainment that inspired storytellers and technical artists to improvise and innovate, updating the industry on the upcoming projects of the combined talents of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound.

Foo, who spent over two decades in the IT industry on technology solutions and product development, spoke on the VR/AR ecosystem in China and UCCVR’s experience in this market, their role as organizers of the annual Worldwide Global Creators Community VR Film Festival and potential innovative user experiences in the VR/AR space.

VR X SMF Ignite participants were also treated to an exhibition of VR content and technology on level 5 of the Marina Bay Sands co-located with Asia TV Forum & Market, from 29 November to 1 December. The VR exhibition showcased the innovative use of VR for entertainment and immersive media solutions for enterprises.
